The UNstuck weigh-in | Ash Wednesday, February 25, begins the 40-day journey to Easter. The season is traditionally a season of fasting and focus for the deep places of personal and global transformation and renewal. There is never the experience of resurrection in any dimension of our lives without our going through the pain of discipline and sacrifice. It is not enough to just have the "want to." It must be accompanied by the "work to." I have been praying for over 2,000 of you who turned in sealed commitment cards eight weeks ago for the commitments that you made to move forward in a stuck area of your life. Even though Pastors Brain and Dave finished the series this past weekend, it doesn't mean that that it is time to give less focus to your New Year commitments. God wants to take you to a new place in your work, relationships, health and faith! Make the commitment this week to take the next step in your journey with Jesus.

For those of you who are part of other fellowships around the world, we had the final "weigh-in" and interview with our three unstuck participants this past weekend. Check it out and see how they did and what's next. Also check out the preview for our Fearless Living series that begins this coming weekend. God bless...
Hey everyone...congratulations! Now that you\'ve taken the first step by starting there is only one more step left...continue. God Bless!

I am so proud of the 3 of you! Having worked out with you, I know how much focus, energy and passion you have put into this effort - and I know that same focus, energy and passion will take you to your ultimate goal, a lifestyle of health and freedom. You are an inspiration to your families and to all the rest of us! And Chas, you are God\'s gift to so many who want the physical lifestyle God intends for us. Blessings to you all!

Amelia Penner and Carey Smith talk about progress made with their new healthy lifestyles I caught up with Amelia Penner and Carey Smith this past weekend to check on their progress in establishing a healthy eating and exercise program. They are in the seventh week of a six- day-per-week rigorous training program. I think you will be able to identify with many of the struggles they face. You will also be encouraged by their success. Reaching a target weight is not an end goal. Staying healthy for life is! Check out the very first video interview Carey and Amelia did right before they started our program the first of the new year. Then listen to the audio interview to see how they are doing.

Change is hard! We can't change resistant habits that have been formed over years overnight or without the commitment to support networks. I encourage you to make a commitment to go beyond the "want to" to the "work to"! God bless...
my son & I only do our exercises three days per week, but we get to count certain types of housework such as using the vacuum as exercise. My strongest motivator is that if I don\'t exercise when I\'m supposed to then he doesn\'t have to. I am concerned for his health so it really does a lot to get me moving. I figured that this way eventually I will develop the long-term habit of still doing it when he is doing his exercise on his own. So I guess it helps to know that someone else\'s success is dependent on your own discipline.

Not taking care of ourselves or being out of shape is a slippery slope. Most of us accept the additional 3-4 pounds per year as we grow older; we shouldn’t. Compare exercise and diet to writing a check to charity. With the financial challenges we all have, it’s tough to do sometimes. However, once the check is written, it really feels good.
We should all have discipline over our bodies. Amelia and Cary; good for you! Whatever your goals, I hope they are met!

During this series, you have spoken on toxic relationships, and it has been a blessing as I\'ve been able to be more effective in my relationships at all levels and to communicate my thoughts & emotions a bit better. I have also learned to set clearer boundaries in certain relationships and it has been helpful for me and my family. I learned a great deal about how to identify toxic situations and the emotions associated with them & to grow in my effectiveness at dealing with them. Thank you.

I\'m a student at Asbury Theological Seminary and I working with a Lily Grant that is funding a program that is taking 30 students/spouses that desire a step change in their physical fitness. We begin this process with a medical physical including blood work and fitness assessment. They then are set up with a workout routine that is specific to their goals. We also have nutrition classes for them. It is really going great. We call this program Momentum for Ministry. It is really cutting edge and I am honored to be a part of it. We will not know the success of the program until 30 years out. The goal is to establish life-long habits that will keep them strong and fit throughout their ministry.

They both won when they comitted in front of the church for this goal. How many would have put themselves in this spotlight. Congratualations, you have already won a major battle.

got my UnStuck letter this week. it was motivating to know you were praying for me and I knew what I had written so I worked hard to make progress. while I didn\'t get as far as I had hoped, I was pleased to make the progress I did make. I am committed to continue. My biggest place to get \"unstuck\" is the area of procrastination. This affects every area of life and wastes a LOT of time. What I have found in the going forward has been so exciting, pictures, books, time to rest. But it has shown me that I need to re-commit to my \"unstuck\" challenge. The TJ has been a HUGE help. I am learning to let some things go.listening to this interview and watching the video on Sat. eve. was encouraging. we all have gotten a good start so we need to commit to go forward and stay committed! keep going Amelia and Cary! thanks for sharing your journey with us.

Jay Meyer talks about his personal struggle with addiction I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Jay Meyer about his recovery from alcohol and drug addictions last week. Jay leads the Administrative Board at Ginghamsburg and is one of the founding leaders of our Next Step recovery ministries. It was interesting hearing his comments about the addictive personality and how it ties into so many other unholy habits in our lives. I can relate
God bless...

Wow. These interviews are incredible. Mike - you have a real gift for making your guest feel comfortable, setting up the questions, conversing and commenting and going deeper into the topics explored. Continue the interviews! I\'m sure others are receiving as much from them as I am. (And I\'m not just saying this because I\'m related to Jay!) It\'s more intimate way to explore the weekly topic even further. Lori M.

I just listened to this past Sunday\\\'s Sermon. It was very helpful as it expounded relevant scriptures to real life situations. My son and I have been holding one another accountable to exercise since he\\\'s homeschooled and I don\\\'t attend the gym at this time. We are also not buying things we know is something we don\\\'t want in our diet. I don\\\'t really struggle with most of the same things I did years ago. Now it seems to be focusing on what good things to do, and I know it will be hit or miss on some things until I\\\'m addicted to the good things. I\\\'ve died to so many things and I\\\'m anxious to get addicted to my new habits. Thank you for a very relevant, scriptural & annointed sermon. It is very much appreciated.

I appreciate the interviews. Jay\'s story I am familiar with. I too have struggled with addictions and have 19 years of being sober. I am amaized how I overcome one addiction and others can creep into my life. I want to thank Jay for always putting his story out there to inspire us like him to keep working our programs. I would not be where I am today with out the power of the Holy Spirit guiding me momement by moment. I am working on healthy eating and exercise now. The transformation journal, Daily Vitimins, and Wed. bible study are just part of my tools. I encourage others to just keep trying and pray daily for Gods help. Keep possitive people around you to hold you accountable and encourage you. I cannot fight off the negativity that trys to defeat me without God and my support system. Mike, keep the interviews comming. They are inspiring.

Jay, your story reminds me that God\'s love is great er than anything we encounter in this world. I to have my demons and battles that without the grace of a loving God would have wiped me out long ago! We serve an incredible, loving God who continues to meet us where we are. He will never leave us or forsake us and for this I am incredibly greatful. Love ya brother Jay!

I have found listening to Jay at next step and then this interview (and others posted) to be powerful. am re-listening to toxic relationships sermons right now and realize I need to make daily choices to trust and not depend on my past faith but keep up my TJ and daily prayer and journaling. I think for the first time I am really looking forward to the prayer and fasting of Lent. Thanks for leading us forward in faith growth.

I am forever in debt to Jay for the transformation journey that he leads me on... and he has done this with words of widsom, but more importantly by living out this example.

That\'s a great job. These are very helpful tips that you have discussed very deeply in interview. These weekly interview are helpful to make the clear sense for a topic. Everyone must learn something from them. So keep continues with commitment.

i believe part of our responsibility for this \"gift\" is to share our experiance and give others hope. i am grateful to be a part of the recovery community at ginghamsburg and be able to contribute a small part, especially with people like jay and mike helping to lead the way.

Personal trainer Chastity Slone I am hearing from many of you that healthy eating and the lack of a sustainable exercise program is one of the hardest areas to get “unstuck” in your life. Some of you have even mentioned how these unhealthy life practices are impacting your children’s health. Listen to part 2 of my interview with physical trainer Chastity Slone. Please send any comments or updates to me at staff(at)ginghamsburg.org
God bless...

Interviewing Chastity Slone It’s the end of January, and you are probably being tempted to relinquish commitments that you made just a few weeks ago. Healthy eating and habitual exercise tends to be one of the most obstinate obstacles to hurdle. I interviewed my trainer Chastity Slone this week to get her practical perspective on developing a healthy lifestyle for life.
Send any comments or updates about your commitments to me at staff(at)ginghamsburg.org.

1/29/09 Update - Wanted to share with you an excerpt from an email I received today:
I hadn’t really made a commitment this year, because I was REALLY feeling stuck emotionally. My emotional constipation has completely flowed over into my physical well being too. I’ve been ... studying "One Month To Live" and thinking back to what my dreams have been in the past & where I lost sight of them. I never thought I’d be an overweight, excuse maker at this point in my life. I never thought I'd buy into the lies of my mom's overweight, so shall it be for me~!
Listening to Chastity's’ interview reminded me of all the training I’ve had on healthy eating & exercise. (God knew I’d need to be reminded of this struggle throughout my life.) It's not enough to know the right things to do; God always requires action for healing. I'm so tired of being "stuck" in this area. I don’t want to be like Oprah gaining and losing the same 40 lbs. the rest of my life. More...
I’m feeling energized to "get back to it!" I won’t believe the lies.
